Wizara ya afya inatazamiwa kuzindua awamu tatu za kampeni ya dharura ya chanjo ya polio katika kaunti kumi humu nchini.
Wizara hiyo inalenga kuwachanja watoto milioni 7.4 katika kampeni hiyo.Awamu ya kwanza ya kampeni hiyo, inayolenga watoto wenye umri wa miaka mitano, itazinduliwa Alhamisi tarehe 24 hadi 28 mwezi Agosti 2023 ikilenga kaunti za Kiambu, Nairobi, Kajiado na Garissa kwa lengo la kuchanja takriban watoto milioni 1.8.
Awamu ya pili na ya tatu zitalenga watoto milioni 2.8 na itaendeshwa kati ya mwezi Septemba na Oktoba 2023 katika kaunti 10 zinazojumuisha Kaunti za Kiambu, Nairobi na Kajiado.
Akizungumza na waandishi wa habari Katibu katika idara ya afya ya umma Mary Muriuki, alisema wizara ya afya imetambua kaunti kumi zilizo na hatari kubwa ya maambukizi ya polio, ambazo ni Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Garissa, Kitui, Machakos, Tana River, Lamu, Wajir, na Mandera.
Kampeni ya hivi punde inafuatia kugunduliwa kwa visa 6 vya virusi vya polio miongoni mwa watoto katika Kambi ya Wakimbizi ya Hagadera katika Kaunti ya Garissa.
Visa hivyo viligunduliwa na wahudumu wa afya kupitia shughuli za uchunguzi na uchanganuzi uliofanywa katika maabara ya KEMRI.
